A Crestline Homes build in progress

The Process

Five stages, in order.

Crestline starts before construction does. The first two stages are where budget certainty is actually created, and they are the ones most builders skip. By the time ground is broken, the lot, the plan and the budget already agree with each other.

Most Crestline homes take 10 to 14 months to build. The exact figure depends on the size of the home, the lot, and how quickly decisions are made during design and selections.

The five stages

  1. Lot Review, a stage of the Crestline Homes building process

    Lot Review

We start with the land, not the layout.

Before anything is designed, we look at the lot with you. Slope, utilities, setbacks, and site costs all shape what a home will really cost to build, and it is far cheaper to learn that now than after a plan is drawn.

  2. Pre Build Planning, a stage of the Crestline Homes building process

    Pre Build Planning

The plan, the budget, and the lot have to agree.

This is the phase most builders skip. We work through scope and budget together until the three line up, so you can commit to building with a clear picture rather than a hopeful estimate.

  3. Design and Selections, a stage of the Crestline Homes building process

    Design and Selections

Customization, focused on what matters to you.

We shape the home around how your family actually lives, and we sequence decisions so you are never handed everything at once. You spend your attention where it changes the result.

  4. Construction, a stage of the Crestline Homes building process

    Construction

    Weekly updates and milestone meetings.

You get structured communication on a schedule, not when you chase it. At each milestone we walk the project together so what was planned, budgeted, and expected is what is actually being built.

  5. Handoff and Support, a stage of the Crestline Homes building process

    Handoff and Support

We finish the way we started, in person.

We walk the completed home with you and work through the punch list together until each item is closed out. Once you have moved in we stay reachable, because the people who built the home are the right people to answer questions about how it works.

While We Build

You should never have to chase us.

When communication is unclear, the entire process feels uncertain and stressful. Crestline solves this through structured communication, weekly updates, and milestone meetings so clients always know where the project stands.

Every week
A written update on what moved, what is next, and anything that needs a decision from you.
At each milestone
We walk the project together, so what was planned, budgeted and expected is what is actually being built.
Whenever it matters
Decisions arrive in manageable sections rather than all at once, which is one of the largest factors in whether a build stays on schedule.

Common Questions

Questions we get asked.

How long does it take to build a custom home in Utah?

Most Crestline homes take 10 to 14 months to build. The exact timeline depends on the size of the home, the lot, and how quickly decisions are made during design and selections. Crestline sequences those decisions so they arrive in manageable sections rather than all at once, which is one of the largest factors in whether a build stays on schedule.

What are the steps to building a custom home?

Crestline works through five stages: lot review, pre build planning, design and selections, construction, then walkthrough and handover. The first two happen before construction begins, which is where budget certainty is actually created.

How often will I hear from my builder during construction?

Weekly. Crestline provides structured communication with weekly updates and milestone meetings, so you know where the project stands without having to chase it.

What happens before construction starts?

Two stages happen first. Crestline reviews the lot with you, then works through a pre build planning phase where the plan, the budget and the lot are brought into agreement. Major decisions come after those three line up, not before.

Start with the lot.

Before anything is designed, we look at your land with you and talk honestly about what it will cost to build there. That conversation is where every Crestline home begins.
